I was reading a bit about this practice. It turns out it isn’t only a movie thing for returning people from OD. If someone ODs and his/her stops there’s a good chance injection in right place of the heart has a good chance for returning someone. Better than heart massage in certain cases. But it’s rarely done and always as a last resort but not cuz it’s not effective but because research showed that even highly trained professionals in most cases miss the right spots for injection, even on cadavers in calm situation so in real life situation it’s usually waste of time and energy BUT it would still save some lives if those not responding to naloxone would get injection of adrenaline to the heart.
