Not sure where to post this, so I posted here and if you need to move please do.

About a decade ago I was having trouble with my knees, was working at a very fancy high-paying engineering job with a fully stocked first aid cabinet. I open the cabinet, and I find something I?ve never seen before- an aerosol can igood for bruises and sprains, so I figure I will spray it on my knees instead of another ibuprofen. The can said to spray until skin turned white. It Never turned white, so I kept spraying. I sprayed for probably a solid 2-3 minutes, maybe more. Granted I was in an open indoor space, but my face was very close to my knees trying to see if this stuff is turning white. It never turned white. Later on, I?m at my desk and I start tripping. I am freezing, especially the inside of my scalp, I?m feeling all whooshy and weird. I sat at my desk and waited it out. Tripping for hours.

I occasionally still get a cold scalp and have all kinds of neurological issues that the neurologist couldn?t see a decade ago. Can anyone tell me what I did to myself? In hindsight, I should have gone to the ER and maybe they would have given me NAC or charcoal.

I?ve never done inhailants on purpose, the ingredients were something like butane, n-butane? and another hydrocarbon.
Anyone else have brain damage from something stupid like this?
I?d appreciate your experience, nerve healing, and general journey stories.

Stupid me. I was all super healthy at the time and didn?t even want an ibuprofen. Trying to be all herbal and natural and I definitely picked the scarier devil.

Do you have the bottle? Bring it to a doctor and call poison control with them. Usually you call poison control about these things.

I have no idea.

Please go to ER or call poison control to be safe. <3

I was under the impression inhalant use only lasts a short while unless you dose again? Am I wrong?

Guys- this was 10 yrs ago and I don?t have the bottle. I have told my doc about it, but I have neurological issues that presented about the same time that come and go and have turned into CFS/ME and EBV and who knows what this mitochondrial damage will evolve into. I just have no experience with inhalants, other than the occasional teenaged Whipp-it. I?m going for a shit ton of blood work this week (which always sucks to say up front ?give me your best girl and use the smallest butterfly in this one magic spot that you cannot feel w/ your latex gloves on?) and maybe an mri too- just for kicks! Oh, and by the way, I did google the spray shortly after this happened and the website said not to use for more than 5 F**king SECONDS! That was NOT on the bottle. If I was smart, I would have gone to the ER and sued them.

Most sprays for pain & bruising contain Methanol, Menthol, Calendula, Salicyclic acid and some had aloe vera. Not the usual suspects for causing lasting damage, if any at all. Can you still get the name or a link to the exact spray?

Hey man, I'm going to send this to drug culture for you, I think more people will respond there, and it's more suited to the question at hand.

With that said, I have symptoms of CNS degradation, and I'm quite young. Although I believe my years of heavy meth use probably contributed more, I imagine that my time huffing solvents, and gasoline (usually in conjunction with the meth) probably contributed quite a bit.

WHAT? Methanol not a suspect for causing lasting damage? Does going blind and dying not count as lasting damage? Or did you mean menthol?

Ouch, yeah you got me. 8( Not sure if that was my spell check or prior imbibing? Thanks for catching that P-Lems. It's DEF Menthol! --- Though aerosol Methanol would be fun at Burning Man Fest..

Your tongue has receptors for hot and cold at the tip, far more than your skin- which obv has nerve endings for hot and cold just not as concentrated.

The same receptors on your tongue and also skin react with menthol.

Did you get this spray in your mouth and on your tongue?

Spraying something for that long was pretty silly but a long time ago. It shouldnt affect you now.

If it has, Id hazard a guess and say its affected the delicate nerve endings in your mouth, tongue etc.

They are all connected to your scalp.

Nerve damage, well once its there its there.

Just see a specialist in that area, get them to check the inside of your mouth and your tongue.

It's really hard to say what effects it has had. I agree with the person who said to call poison control if you still have the bottle. They would have a better idea about the effects of any of the ingredients in the paint. If you had gone to the ER, it's hard to say what they would have done. They wouldn't have been able to give you NAC or charcoal, since you inhaled the paint rather than drank it. But perhaps, they would have been able to do something that would have reduced the possibility of it causing damage. I can't say. I huffed butane intentionally when I was younger, and I temporarily noticed some lasting effects. Just generally a bit slower and more sluggish in my thought process. No major effects, very minor and subsided after a few weeks.

Moving this to BDD.

If you don't know what exactly was in the spray can, we can't help much. Different alkanes have different toxicity mechanisms, and if it was something else, then that makes it even more complicated. Since this happened 10 years ago, your best bet is going to a neurologist if you think you have some nerve damage.

Also, loads of things could have happened within those 10 years not related to that particular incident. Again, it's best for someone to examine your body, that's much more useful than people trying to guess based on your subjective descriptions over the internet.

I'm hopeful that your tests come out alright but even if they don't, something else may be the cause as belligerent drunk alluded to. All we can do is speculate whether or not you may have some neurological damage from accidental huffing ten years ago so I'm closing this.
