3,000 NKY patients could be forced to find new care due to federal opioid accusations

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — More than 3,000 patients could be forced to find new medical care after two well-known doctors in Northern Kentucky face federal charges, accused of writing illegitimate prescriptions for controlled substances.

On Nov. 18, a federal grand jury indicted Dr. Kendall Hansen and Dr. Michael Fletcher in two separate cases. The pair are listed as practicing at Interventional Pain Specialists in Crestview Hills, Ky.

Federal agents accuse Hansen of getting other doctors to prescribe him high doses of opioids. Those agents claim Hansen would write prescriptions for employees and instruct them to bring him the pills.

The indictment against Hansen lists 480 tramadol doses and 30 phentermine doses.

In a separate filing, federal agents accuse Fletcher of writing oxycodone hydrochloride prescriptions that were not for legitimate medical use.

The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure restricted both Fletcher and Hansen’s licenses Nov. 23, prohibiting them from prescribing controlled substances.

Awesome.. I’ll go start gathering kindling for the burning. Hell yes, the opioid witch trials. Someone ring up the cartels so they can laugh and cheer at their windfall. They are always taking new patients.

A researcher should follow the patients and document the results of this. I’m thinking the results will include tragedy if they are left high and dry

it's not just republicans pushing for draconian drug laws. Joe Biden wants to "Permanently place FRS into Schedule I of the CSA." Source

FRS being fentanyl related substances (i.e. fentanyl analogs) and CSA being the controlled substances act.

punitive drug laws are a pretty bipartisan thing in my opinion

Joe biden is right wing. Fuck him. Motherfuckers is probably on fentayl to even walk.

Besides all the fentanyl in the US is from the cartel what difference would making it schedule 1 make other than making ppl on their deathbed die in agony and complicating surgical anesthesia?

On the west coast we are about as far left as exists in the US and on earth maybe and all drugs are becoming deceiminalized (already in oregon) amd in CA all hard drugs were moved down to misdemeanor instead of felony

That's fair, he is much further right than others in the democratic party.

Obama didn't change much about the drug war either when he was in office (not sure if you consider him right wing).

Even Bernie Sanders has said some less than truthful things about opioids, demonizing them unfairly imo.

The crack epidemic had left wing black community leaders calling for punishment in the 90s too...

Idk it seems to me both parties are shitty on drug policy.

Agreed. This proposal would leave fentanyl out of schedule 1 though. It aims to crack down on the hundreds of fentanyl analogs that are not yet explicitly controlled

I consider Obama right ring. The establishment democratic party is right wing.

I'm sure some left wing ppl like Bernie may have said pro prohibition rhetoric because punishment and blood lust is what Americans want to hear. They are politicians at the end of the day.

The point remaims that the only places we see strides being made such as full decriminalization, psilocybin and rec. Weed, safe injection site efforts are all far left led initiatives

Let them schedule all analogues. The cartel and China are shipping regular fent in by the tons.

Analogues are pretty dead these days in favor of designers opioids that aren't fent aaogues as far as the n small RC world. Its all normal fent in dope.

Such a researcher would get no funding and probably be fired unless they are tenured when they publish the results showing it resulted in an overdose spike in fentanyl. The lucky patients that don't die will enter methadone clinics

There will be backlash against people.showing that opioid prohibition is the cause for the fentanyl epidemic.

So many of us saw this on the horizon so many years back. What a never ending deadly yard sale by the medical community.

Methadone clinics are not good for pain treatment as the analgesic effects of methadone only last about eight hours. With a reasonable take home it can work.

After moving from the North to the South there really is a huge stigma around drugs here that is much different than up north.

Tramadol and phentermine. Lmfao what??

These patients should just go to the methadone clinic. Methadone is king and most state insurance covers it. Many will turn to heroin though.

agreed, they have no form of anticapitalism

I'm sure some left wing ppl like Bernie may have said pro prohibition rhetoric because punishment and blood lust is what Americans want to hear. They are politicians at the end of the day.
while Libertarians (capital L) are often wrong about so many things, they are consistent in their approach to cognitive liberty. even ron paul defended the legality of drugs... granted he deems it to be a state's rights issue which still misses the point imo

The point remaims that the only places we see strides being made such as full decriminalization, psilocybin and rec. Weed, safe injection site efforts are all far left led initiatives
many libertarians (lowercase L) have been engaging in anti drug war activism for decades. in fact, the Drug Policy Alliance was seed funded by none other than the man himself, György Soros. he's surely no leftist.

i am against scheduling in principal. suppose for a moment that some fentanyl derived drug posesses the quality of potent analgesia without respiratory depression at reasonable doses. this would be a miracle drug in every critical care setting. unfortunately, this drug will never be found if we "schedule all analogues". the research approaval from instutional review boards is nigh impossible with schedule 1 drugs. remember, these are drugs defined as having "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse".

Analogues are pretty dead these days in favor of designers opioids that aren't fent aaogues as far as the n small RC world. Its all normal fent in dope.
the "nitazene" drugs have been making their way onto the US east coast. see here. frightening stuff. my belief is that as the interdictionistas beef up in the arms race, so do drug traders. often by producing ultra potent substances that are easily trafficked around the globe.

They would save millions of lives if they just opened up morphine maintenance here. Theres so many people who won't take methadone that would gladly take morphine.
yup. or even hydropmorphone if the doctors would feel more comfortable using it.
