2015 New Drug Approvals Hit 66-Year High!

2015 has been a remarkable year for pharmaceutical innovation. What would have been a dream (or perhaps a delusion) a few years ago has happened. Last year’s new drug approvals reached 51 (Figure 1), besting every year since 1950. This tally includes 45 drugs approved by FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), and 6 recombinant therapies approved by the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER). The latter include four drugs to treat blood coagulation disorders (e.g., hemophilia), a therapeutic vaccine for melanoma, and a preventive vaccine for meningococcal meningitis type B.

Hmm the IBS drug might have abuse potential similar to tramadol in opioid addicted individuals up to 28% report euphoria as a result of ingesting 3-10 times the therapeutic dose.

It"s a mixed agonist/antagonist but this doesn't say much about abuse potential just take the buprenorphine abuse epidemic in some parts of (rural) Europe as an example.


Still hoping it's not some souped up loperamide but if it was it would be Otc right

beta lactamase inhibitor for your bladder sounds cool but what if it fucks up your bacteria in the gut????

The beta-lactamase inhibitor has very little antibacterial action. Plus things like tazobactam and clavulanic acid have been around for years. They allow activity against bacteria that would be otherwise resistant and while the combo drugs (Augmentin, Zosyn) can have negative impact on the gut flora, it is mostly due to the antibacterial component.
