Help minimizing Codeine withdrawals and share your symptoms

I'd like some help stopping taking Codeine all the time or just like to hear your experiences of giving up whatever opiate you've fallen in love with.

Taking it every day is really starting to annoy me now. Having to maintain a constant stock and I feel like certain companies selling OTC products are taking advantage (probably under the guise of a "deterring" addicts even though true addicts will do anything for the money) of addicts by raising their prices. So if anyone has any methods for lessening the withdrawals I'd appreciate it. Another reason is so I can start drinking again, I feel like it's too dangerous to drink while using Codeine. (isn't it weird how opiates dwarf every other drug though? Every other experience feels inconsequential compared to the opiate high. Even the euphoria from ecstasy doesn't approach opiates for me.)

Has anyone else ever experienced this on opiates (it seems to be as I've increased the dose): I've started to get this weird feeling where I feel like I'm feigning emotion, I've stopped feeling excited over certain things but I know I'm supposed to be excited over them, upset or happy when watching movies or listening to music. I'm just kind of existing. It seems to be as the codeine doesn't give me a high anymore I've gone into a strange depressed state. Now when I stop taking the daily dose I get overly emotional, like I'll start crying at tiny little things. Anyone else share these symptoms when dosing for a long time and then when stopping?

So anyway, if anyone has any advice on lessening withdrawals and your experiences/symptoms you tend to get when going without your favorite opiate for a few days I'd appreciate it hugely.

You can't depend on what's OUTside of you to give you 'life' / excitement - money, drugs, facebook, horsepower for your car, etc., etc., ... If you do, it won't be long before those OUTside things don't get the job done anymore, REGARDLESS of how much of it you get. Only thing youcan count on then, is poverty, ill physical and psychological health, and the like.

There's a time and place for everything. Over-use is the distinction between USE, and ABUSE. Start by thinking on that. Long and HARD...............

Take it from someone who's taken Hydro for 8 years, and convinced the Doc that I can do it judiciously.

For lessening withdrawals there is Loperamide (doesn't cross the blood brain border), various benzodiazepines and other drugs that provide relief. However, I would recommend just quitting cold turkey, especially since it's codeine and people usually use codeine to help for withdrawals off more potent opioids.

In any case, if you are having horrible W/D symptoms (not sure what your habit is like) then it may be in your interest to slowly ween the dosage until it reaches like 30 mg/daily...then quit cold turkey. Either way, Codeine is just a shitty drug to get addicted to...if you are gonna put in all the effort that comes with a daily opiate addiction, at least use something that will give you a proper nod. But if it works for you then good on ya.

And yes, I get hyperemotional too when I'm having withdrawal symptoms. It's the first thing that tells me I'm getting sick.
