Alcohol Palcohol???

you guys think making alcohol into a powder will cause more people to take too much?

pretty sure people drink way too much in liquid form anyway

Yes. I think depending on the bulk of the powder, and if it has different side effects.

I dislike the taste of alcohol, particularly straight spirits, though I will get a bit buzzed on a glass of wine every few months.

This taste aversion was conditioned by drinking as many shots of mccormick vodka equivalent to my young age of 14. I can't drink vodka straight ever again, and alcohol in general is rarely appealing. The fact you must consume more to keep a buzz is also bad.

I believe this drug shall create a class of alcoholics who enjoy the effects but dislike downing such a liquid. Just my guess.

So 20 grams is equal to 3/4 fl oz of 120 proof alcohol?
That doesn't seem right.
I just did gram to fl oz conversion and got about that.

EDIT: or a better way to put it.. how much of this to equal a 1oz shot of 120 proof alcohol?

This has actually already been patented by General Foods.

The simple answer is: this powder can be made up to 60% by weight alcohol. That means that 10 grams of "palcohol" would contain 6 grams (7.6mL) of pure ethanol. A "standard drink" - which is rather conveniently about as much as 1oz of 120 proof, is about 14 grams of alcohol (17.6ml.) So that's about 25 grams of "palcohol".

TL;DR: It's basically 120 proof alcohol, but in powdered form. 1.5ml of 80 proof = 1ml of 120 proof = 1 gram of "palcohol".

Whether it's going to be commercially available that concentrated, is another question. But that's the "top limit".

I don't see anyone smoking or snorting that much powder. Especially since it would release alcohol upon contact with water...

I've read some shit stating that it's not going to be hitting shelves and some shit that says it is. I don't know. Either way, it sounds stupid and impractical.

Obviously though, we'll probably try it if it shows up, just for the fuck of it.

No problem.

Somehow I don't see people trying to sneak four ounce bricks of white powders that smell strange into a football game, if you catch my drift.

I don't think very many people would enjoy alcohol flavored alcohol...

thanks for clearing that up Sekio, youre better at math than me even if I had four multiple choice answers to pick from

so if I'm gathering this right, you'd need 33.3 grams to equal a shot (50ml) of 80 proof liquor?

If .1 grams was equal to a shot of standard 80 proof spirits, then we'd have something big going on....but almost an ounce=1 shot? Fuck that...no wonder they're considering approving it! It's not abusable enough to even matter...

That's right.

Ostensibly there could be some sort of flavorant, artificial sweeteners etc added to mask the otherwise... interesting taste.

That's my thoughts as well. This is just like saying "151 proof rum has been approved for sale!!!!!" except it's not even 151 proof 8)

Ohh, I'm continually surprised at what people will use compulsively. 99% of people will go pfffffftttt and that one person who hates the taste of alcohol decides he loves it.

Any amount that gets some one drunk is enough, and I consider alcohol as addictive and more dangerous than heroin (by themselves and if you assume pure heroin).

I think now the question is: how many grams are going to come in a package and for what price?

I think that may be your question, not many others, and probably not allowed to talk about it anyway.

Unless the answer is 1000 and free, I'm out.

I mean if its cheap I'll try it. I like to try drugs lol

and on a somewhat related note, if one more person tells me they drink IPA's for the taste and the taste only I'm probably gonna lose it

beer is probably my least favorite form of alcohol

actually that would imply I drink the shit at all

If people want a powder that's like alcohol but doesn't need an ounce to have an effect, try phenprobamate. Tastes like shit but this probably will too.
