Misc 1,4 butanediol - did i get ripped off?

1st post, not sure if im even in the right forum, please excuse my ignorance.

i bought some 1,4 butanediol(never taken it before) off snip and what i got was a bottle of snip.
on the msds for it lists:
name cas #%
potassium silicate 1312-76-1 8-10%
sodium carbonate 497-19-8 5-10%
ethyl alcohol 64-17-5 5%
sodium laureth sufate 9004-82-4 5%
sodium borate 1330-43-4 .5-1%

anyhow i am very ignorance about drugs in general, any comments would be helpful, thanks...

There is no telling... Its possible that the MSDS is just to deter inspection since I'm assuming this was imported. Nice Engrish name (snip from what I deduced from the name - or maybe I just get too into Asian culture but it seems to me that its a joke name)... I pulled up a Google search and the description of the product reminds me of when GBL was going around.

I would be very cautious since you don't know what you have. Does the seller have any feedback on the product?

I've never had 1,4-butanediol but I've not heard nice things...

good catch on the name, ya, it came from korea. the snip, 99.2 percent positive feedback, but most of the feedback is private. i guess not everyone wants everyone to know the bought 1,4 bdo, lol. how did you google it? by the ingredients? cause i cant find anything about it, grrrrr...

I just did a search for snip and it brought me to a placeholder website that was put up in January. It gives a description not unlike what GBL used to be described as: "snip

You might want to edit out the seller name, we aren't allowed to talk about sources here.

Anyway, the "Over 99% active ingredients" leads me to believe that its being fronted as a cleaning product but you wouldn't use something that removes asphalt and tar to clean... That said, buyer beware as they say.

thanks for the help, sorry animal cookie for the errors in my posts... but is this the right forum to talk about 1,4 bdo then? im still learning how to use the search feature on the forum. i cant find any hits for 1,4 bdo...
 
Yeah you would talk about 1,4-bdo here. You don't see any posts on it because it isn't common. It doesn't have the greatest reputation. Erowid even reports that in addition to the normal risks of GHB, anxiety and heart problems are a concern with it.

32 of the 53 experience reports on Erowid are negative as well.
 
There's lots of bluelight threads about BDO, it's just that it is usually called butanediol because the search function doesn't like very short words.

If what you bought is the product described in the MSDS... don't drink it... it's literally soap. Just be sure that it's actually butanediol (measure the melting point, density, miscibility with water and such) before you drink it.

Discussing sources, or where to buy drugs/chemicals, isn't allowed on Bluelight.

i want the ghb effects(i dont sleep well since i suffered a severe head injury, in a car accident) so im kinda desperate.

hrrrm id say PM me and we can talk more in depth about what u bought..feel free..

1.4 butanediol gets a bad rep but im not sure why tbh..it basically has the same effects as ghb but with more of an alcohol slant to it..i would NOT take it to sleep..just my experience as ghb and Bute did not improve my sleep..
 
I have a sneaking suyspicion the "bad rep" surrounding 1,4-bdo comes from people overusing it, drinking contaminated material, and nocebo effect... the NTP toxicity report on the stuff suggests if it's pure it's not as destructive or toxic as people make it out to be.
 
This stuff is extremely easy to black out on, i mean to overshoot your mark and become unconscious dead weight for a couple hours then wake up with your heart racing and your hands shaking and nauseous as hell. Dopamine rebound i guess? It has all the negative effects of ghb while not being nearly as fun as ghb.

How would one go about testing purity of a batch of 1,4-BDO?

well thats just silly then..butanediol is the best social lubricant on the market, out of the legal and illegal meds..its very cheap, no hangover...i can understand not liking it as much as ghb but beyond that, i think the gripes have to do with using too much..

i dunno about testing purity but just take 1.g mls of it and see what happens..any experienced user will know where it fits on the purity scale..

That's a dumb idea. And most users won't be able to tell if there were, e.g., metal impurities, or if their BDO is 90% instead of 99%...

I think aside from having it professionally tested, you could measuring density and melt point carefully, and check for residue if you burn/evaporate a small sample under intense heat.
 
^^uhh not many people are going to understand that much less do it accurately...either trust the source beforehand, have it tested professionally or dont buy it at all i guess are the 3 options u have realistically....
 
Doesn't this stuff freeze pretty easily? Can't you put it in a glass bottle and stick it in the fridge for a little while and it will freeze? Its not terribly scientific but if you stick a small amount in a sealed glass container and put it in the fridge and you can turn the sealed bottle upside down without noticeable liquid residue wouldn't that be a decent test? Not many common things have a 65ish Fahrenheit freezing point.
 
^^it freezes very easily but i think the OP is also wondering wondering if its 99.1% or 99.7% etc etc..i dont think greenlighters can accept pms or send them correct?
