Care- Oh I miss the smell of a wine cellar.
Sticks with you for life I think :)

Samadhi- WOW. That's all I can say.

Yea I love wine. Napa is a bit snooty for my taste, but its a fantastic place to tour for a day. Sonoma is more down to earth.

Looks like a very peaceful place Samadhi.

Took a day-trip up to the mountains yesterday. Stopped at Shaver Lake, which is drained for dam repairs at the moment. Pretty trippy to walk around in an empty lake.

Ok, shittiest quality and probably shot of the thread. Here's our balcony on our honeymoon right outside Cancun. We decided not to take pictures on our trip... it was just for our memories or something. ;)

Advice about backpacking trip

Hey everyone, didn't relly know where to post this but anyways, me and a friend are planning a trip to go backpack through europe for about 4 months. The plan is to go november - january but i was thinking leaving mid january and staying till may could be a better option.
We're going to start off in Spain and work our way up to the UK / Scandinavia

Anyone have any tips / advice?

We're only just beginning our planning so everythings a bit vague.

-What backpacks / where to keep them / how to prevent theft
-we're staying in hostels
-budget of approximately 100$ / 80 euro a day
-were both new to travelling, no experience whatsoever
-the trip is going to be a bit less of a tour/sightsee trip and more along the lines of pubs/clubs

If anyones got experience they'd like to share it would be great :)

Care - it's such a wonderful area of the world - I spent a large portion of my childhood on that farm, there are so many great memories <3

Also, i'm so jealous of both PI & Amor for holidaying in Mexico. I will visit there one day :)

As an aside, i'm heading to Indonesia in June for a break, i'll definitely be posting some pics, for sure!

The only place ive been in mexico was some dirtbowl right on the border where people lived in houses made out of old box-springs and plywood and tried to sell me chicle for a penny.

It made me sad.

Are you a guy or a girl? If the latter, I'd recommend always wearing protection. I'm not being cute, a lot of women come back from trips like this either pregnant or experiencing some kind of STI. Don't let guys convince you not to use a condom, and always buy them yourself so you know you have them handy.

I'm sure I have loads more to add, I'll post them as things come to mind. :)

Network network network!

:)

*Travel forums: www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/ is fantastic and a wealth of information - www.tripadvisor.com is a great resource to get the lowdown on hotels/guest houses/hostels. If you need to book accommodation, if you can get onto the internet - you'll often find really cheap accommodation :)
* Other travel blogs - these will give you insights into places that you most likely won't find in a run of the mill travel guide.

I'm planning a trip to Indonesia and have found the above two things invaluable - we're heading off the beaten track for a chunk of it so this has been important. You'll also get to know travellers who will be where you are at the same time - i've also done this and it's been so wonderful to meet up with someone who you have familiarity with, even if it's only over the internet. A friendly face in a foreign country is great :)
* Insurance. No, really - INSURANCE! :) Read your policy to find out what you're covered for - you don't want to be caught out. Get your international license too - just in case (this is if you have a license in your country)
* Either keep your passport locked up tight in a safe-deposit box (if you're keeping it at the hotel reception, get a receipt for everything you have given them. Alternately, keep it on your person at all times, in a hidden pouch under your clothes that you hang around your neck. This doesn't work if you're not wearing alot, but i'm guessing that if you travel in Winter, you will be. Make copies of your passport, tickets, and any other documentation you will require and keep another copy in your hotel room and also give it to someone at home. Make sure other people know your itinerary (give them copies).
* I know you said that you want a more pub/club experience, but make sure you get out and about :) You're travelling to amazing parts of the world, you don't want to miss it all because of hang overs <3

hehe, i'm excited for you! :D

That sounds like Mexico beyond the gates of the resorts. The first time I went to Cancun in 2001, we did take a public transit into the city....depressing but I wanted to see "Mexico". Same scenery on the 35 min ride from the airport to the hotel in Cabo San Lucas.

thanks for the replies, we're both going to be 18yr old girls by that time. I am pretty responsible about protection haha, so no worries. I also know that 'shit happens' but that's why Im on BC :p

I bought the Lonely Planet "Europe on a Shoestring" book which looks extremely helpful. Have not yet thought about insurance, thanks I'll look into that :)
Definitely will still be sightseeing and checking out the great stuff that there is to see as well, probably won't be taking many tours of museums haha, well the Louvre would be interesting.

Ooooh the Sun Palace looks good. So modern and clean. Did you get a couples massage?

Secrets is 18+ and all inclusive except the canopied beach private dinners and spa services

I am seriously SO jealous of you both right now <3 Also knowing that for us (Aussies) to go, we need to tack on at least another 3-5k for return flights :( In saying that, after Indonesia (which for us is similar to you flying to mexico), this is a destination we're both really keen to head to, we may just have to keep saving those frequent flyer points ;)

Can I ask what kinds of prices would you be looking at for an all-inclusive package like that? I saw one price of around $300USD - which is really good considering it makes budgeting for your trip SO easy; you don't really have to think about food/beverages, unless you head out sightseeing for the day, maybe?

$3200 US for 2 and I don't plan to leave the resort
I have done the local sightseeing before and unfortunately wish not to return
I would like to remain in my sanctuary of ignorance while on holiday
